This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Science in Medicine Lecture Series, where peer-selected UW School of Medicine faculty present lectures on the forefront of research. Since its launch in 1976, the series has elevated the outstanding achievements of UW Pediatrics faculty and given researchers an opportunity to explore areas outside of their immediate field of study.

UW Pediatrics has a strong history of representation in this series for both new investigators and senior faculty. Previous honorees have included Drs. David Lewis, Chris Wilson, Bonnie Ramsey, Andy Scharenberg, Sunny Juul, Heather Mefford, Colin Studholme, Kym Ahrens, Dimitri Christakis and Jarrad Scarlett.

Nominations for the 2026-2027 lecture series are now open. Speakers are nominated by their peers, and nominations are a wonderful opportunity to recognize your colleagues and encourage collaboration across our scientific community. Please consider nominating individuals for the categories below. Speakers should be able to communicate new and innovative knowledge relevant to clinical, translational, or basic research and engage a diverse audience composed of faculty, staff, and students.

  • New Investigator Lectures provide an important forum for the recognition of exceptional junior faculty members’ current scientific research.
  • Science in Medicine Lectures recognize the body of research for established faculty members as well as recent exciting discoveries.
  • The Distinguished Scientist Lecture recognizes an accomplished School of Medicine senior faculty member, honoring outstanding achievements in the field of research.
  • The Annual Lecture recognizes a prominent, nationally recognized scientist from another research institution, whose research has had a profound impact on their field.

Nominations can be submitted via the 2026-27 Science in Medicine Lecture Series Nomination Form. The deadline for nominations is April 1.
